At Paw in Hand, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. This month, we’re featuring Corinne Dorst, a dedicated Paw Chauffeur and Paw Fun volunteer who has been with us since the summer of 2024.
She first learned about PIHP from her mom, who heard about our mission at church. Knowing her love for animals, her mom encouraged her to get involved—and she’s been making an impact ever since!
For Corinne, the most rewarding part of volunteering is providing love and care to pets while their owners are going through difficult times. “My pets mean the world to me, and if I ever had to be separated from them, I would hope that they’d be well cared for in my absence,” she shared. “Even though I only see the pets for a short time, I try to make sure they feel loved and safe.”
One of her most memorable moments? Witnessing a long-awaited reunion between two dogs and their owner and young daughter. “The dogs were so quiet during the car ride, but when they saw their humans, they were overjoyed—tails wagging, jumping, and giving kisses. The relief and happiness in their owner’s eyes made it all worth it.”
Outside of volunteering, Corinne enjoys spending time with her fiancé and their two dogs, attending concerts and sports games, and playing volleyball and pickleball with friends.
Thinking about volunteering? She encourages others to give it a try! “The leaders of PIHP are passionate and easy to work with. There are so many ways to get involved, and you can find an opportunity that fits your schedule.”
