Duties and Tasks

Requirements

The Paw Support Family is essential for the safety and care of Paw in Hand Project’s very special pets and serves as a representative of the Paw in Hand Project’s vision and mission.

  • Responsible for the temporary housing, training, and feeding of pets

  • Provides monthly to bi-weekly summaries of information discovered, care needs, and pet adjustment

  • Facilitates therapeutic care to pets through awareness and response to emotional and behavioral needs

  • Engage in communication with other staff assigned to the pet

  • Attend Paw Care Family Training

  • Adhere to education and training resources provided by the agency

  • Bi-weekly communication with team

  • Willingness to meet visitation needs

  • Must not be away from the home for a period of greater than 12 hours without making arrangements for the pet's care.

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities

Training and Support

  • Have a passion for pets

  • Experience with pet care preferred

  • Be willing to attend training on proper provision of care

  • Maintain home or renters insurance

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Home must be safe and have adequate space to house additional pets​

  • Certain qualifications will vary on a case by case basis to meet important requests of the family. For example “having a smoke free home”, or “no additional pets due to behavioral concerns” A representative will work for you to ensure the best possible fit.

  • Ability to complete and submit timely summaries 

  • Compassion for animals

  • Understanding and patience of animals’ needs as they adjust to a new environment

  • Ability to provide pets with daily exercise as required by the specific pet

  • Attend pet education and care training

  • Respite care will be available to you to schedule

  • Support with vet appointments, dog walking and play, and pet transportation will be available to you to schedule

  • Staff will be available to call for questions and support

  • Regular opportunities to provide feedback are available

Offers nurture, love, and the provision of basic needs to pets in the temporary care of the agency.  Provide for the unique needs of pets while they are separated from their owner, modifying interactions as best fit for the pet.
